Braces
Metal or ceramic brackets, fixed to the front of the teeth. Adjusted every 4 to 8 weeks until the bite is right.
Lingual braces
The same fixed treatment, bonded to the back of the teeth. Nothing shows from the front.
Clear aligners
A series of ClearCorrect trays, changed in order. Taken out to eat, worn at least 22 hours a day.

Cases that need a surgeon
Some bites cannot be corrected by moving teeth alone. When the jaws themselves have to be repositioned, we plan the orthodontics around the operation and co-treat with a maxillofacial surgeon, before and after. If that is your case, you will hear it at the consultation, not halfway through treatment.

The questions that come up most.
How long does orthodontic treatment take?
Most treatments run 12 to 24 months. You get an estimate for your own case at the consultation, after we take the records.
Braces, lingual braces, or clear aligners, which is right for me?
It depends on your bite. Some cases need fixed braces, many can be treated with aligners, and lingual braces sit behind the teeth where nothing shows. Dr. Mashaly will tell you which of the three fits your case, and why.
Does it hurt?
Expect pressure for a few days after each adjustment rather than pain. It fades as the teeth start to move.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the case and the appliance. You get a written plan with the price on it after the first visit.
What age should a child first see an orthodontist?
Around age 7. The first visit is short, and it often ends with nothing to do until next year.
Are adults too old for braces?
No. Teeth move at any age, and aligners or lingual braces keep the treatment close to invisible.
If something breaks or comes loose
A broken bracket, a poking wire or a lost aligner. Do not pull anything off yourself. Cover a sharp end with orthodontic wax if you have it, then message us and we will fit you in.
